Healthy Living with Good Nutrition and Exercise

 

Healthy living is a combination of good nutrition and exercise. One without the other will only offer partial results. We all know which foods are good for us and which ones we should probably stay away from. Some foods more than others are tempting even though we know they are not necessarily good for us. We’re not going to tell you that you have to give up pizza or ice cream but simply that a managed diet is the best way to put you on track for healthy living. You may also want to consider a healthy substitute for your favorite items. Try to keep a managed routine to include the major food groups and combine healthy eating with targeted exercises. With this combination, you have the key to living a healthy lifestyle.

Below is the recommended dietary guidelines from HHS and USDA:

Key Recommendations for Nutrition

A Healthy Eating Pattern:
• A variety of vegetables from all subgroups – dark green, red and orange, legumes (beans and peas), starchy, and other
• Fruits, especially whole fruits
• Grains, at least half of which are whole grains
• Fat free or low fat dairy, including milk, yogurt, cheese and/or fortified soy beverages
• A variety of protein foods, including seafood, lean meats and poultry, eggs, legumes (beans and peas), and nuts, seeds, and soy products
• Oils

A Healthy Eating Pattern Limits:
• Saturated fats and trans fats, added sugars, and sodium
